Remittances From Overseas Indians Increased By 12% In 2022: Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that remittances sent to the country by abroad Indians will be around $100 billion in 2022, representing a 12% rise in one year. She described NRIs as the “true ambassadors of India” at a session at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city. After the ‘China plus one’ policy, the world is now talking about the ‘European Union plus one’ policy, according to Sitharaman. “Aside from China and the EU, the government is strongly pitching India to global firms as a destination where they can set up their plants,” she said. Sitharaman further stated that the Indian diaspora should collaborate with small and large company owners in the country so that the entrepreneurial talents of NRIs can be leveraged in the next 25 years during the ‘Amrit Kaal’ of freedom. This is one of the most significant remittances.

Over the next 25 years, India will focus on the “four Is” for inclusive growth: infrastructure, investment, innovation, and inclusion, according to the FM. The Centre is aiming to tap into the entrepreneurial spirit of the Indian diaspora. She stated that many people felt that following the outbreak, Indian labourers would not venture outside again. Remittances have surged by 13% in only one year as a result of more people returning in search of more profitable jobs. For the past few years, India has regularly been the top recipient of remittances in the globe. Over 32 million Indians live overseas and are considered a “model community” that helps their adopted nations thrive economically and create jobs.

To emphasise India’s accomplishments in digital payments, the minister announced that 74 billion UPI transactions totaling ‘125 trillion’ were carried out in India in 2022. Sitharaman stated that despite having 17% of the world’s population, India generates only 5% of global emissions. According to her, the centre has boosted its use of renewable energy, and India is on course to fulfil the NDCs (nationally determined contributions) set in Scotland. She emphasised India’s contribution to the rest of the world, claiming that it meets more than 60% of the world’s vaccine needs.

People assumed Indian workers would not return to the country after the pandemic, but they have not only returned, but more have gone for highly valuable employment, and remittances have increased by 12 percent in one year,” she remarked. She stated that the country is becoming a global centre of knowledge and progress because of the supremacy of Indian specialists in information technology, digital technology, autos, semiconductor design, pharmaceutical production, and other disciplines.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman stated Tuesday that remittances from overseas Indians climbed by 12% in one year, reaching USD 100 billion by 2022. I recognise that remittances from migrant Indians to India will total approximately $100 billion USD in 2022. “This is one of the largest remittances that is coming,” the finance minister remarked while speaking at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) conference in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.

At the event, Sitharaman referred to NRIs as “true ambassadors of India,” while urging them to use “made in India” products and services as much as possible in order to promote the country’s individual brand around the world. She also added that the government is vigorously promoting India to global corporations as a destination where they may establish plants in addition to China and the EU. The Union minister also invited the Indian diaspora to collaborate with small and large businessmen in the country so that NRI entrepreneurial abilities can be utilised over the next 25 years during the ‘Amrit Kaal’ of freedom.
